About Me

Corey Podbielski speaking at a conference

Hello!

My name is Corey Podbielski, and I'm a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Graduating from Springfield College in 2015, I hold over a decade of clinical experience in orthopedics and wellness, treating full time as a physical therapist in an outpatient setting. I hold a board certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS).  I have helped many grateful patients recover from injury, treat and prevent chronic disease, and regain independence in their lives.  However, while it is nice to lead someone away from pain and towards their goals, it is even better to change their behavior so that numerous aspects of their health will improve. It is a difficult thing to have a patient start a new healthy habit and stick with it over the long run, like the way it is difficult to save money and accrue interest slowly over time.  I have dedicated myself to being an agent in change in patients’ lives, so that they can be less reliant on me and more confident in themselves to improve their health.

Because of this passion for changing health behaviors, I have also worked to instill wellness programs and assessments at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, in CT.  Clients get a high-level understanding of their current markers of health and longevity and a plan to improve them. This passion has led to co-creating a wellness program specific to longevity. This program brings in the practices uncovered in this book to real life people.

I am also an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT, teaching in the graduate and undergraduate physical therapy program. I currently teach kinesiology, the study of human movement and biomechanics. This gives me an ability to illustrate the nuance of humans’ ability to move, generate force, and develop their resiliency. I have taught in other capacities outside of colleges. In the past, I taught a dry needling certification course nationally, held seminars for dentists about jaw pain at the yearly Connecticut conference, and currently engage in local community educational programs throughout Connecticut.  I frequently give public lectures on a variety of topics including longevity, strength training in the older adult, and falls/balance training.

As a fun fact, I coach the Gaylord Wolfpack Sled Hockey Team, which helps adaptive athletes play ice hockey while sitting down. This allows me to bring both the sport I love and the benefits of exercise to a generally underserved population of disabled individuals. I also serve on the board for the Connecticut Cubs, a brand-new youth sled hockey program.
